Peridot – What We Know About Niantic’s Pet Breeding Game

Last update:
So this one looks like the one to get the excitement going. Peridot, another upcoming game from Niantic, is essentially a Tamagotchi from the creators of Pokémon GO. And wait until you see how cute these animals are.
Peridot was first announced on April 13, 2022, when a press release went live on playperidot.com and through social media. The official announcement reveals some more details about the game, including some very adorable images of the unique and magical creatures we’ll be responsible for.
What we know about peridot so far
First, Peridot (or Dot for short, apparently), is the name of this mysterious new species. Well, not new. According to tradition, peridots first existed thousands of years ago and are now about to emerge from their long slumber. And we have to be there to welcome them into this new world.
Of course, the heartwarming new game will be AR-enabled (or even AR-enabled, I guess) – it’s Niantic, after all. And the Pokémon GO developer hopes this interaction with the real world will make the Peridots even more real.
Raise your own point
Peridot’s first game feature is of course to favor and raise your own point. Although we don’t know much about it yet, we can see that we will be able to take our Dots for walks, play with them and lead them to find treasures in the real world around us. And, just like the Tamagotchis before it, you’ll need to nurture and care for your Dot’s needs, making sure it stays happy and content. In other words, you will need want to play every day.
Diversification and research of species
While elevating your own unique peridot, Niantic of course also encourages multiplayer play. By meeting other players and their own peridot, you will be able to diversify the species by creating completely new and individual variants. During this time, you will research species and discover different peridot archetypes, such as unicorn, peacock, and metal archetypes.

Is there a Peridot release date?
Peridot has just been announced, so there is no release date yet. However, you can sign up at playperidot.com to be notified of future playtests. Beta testing is expected to begin later in April on iOS and Android devices.
